Drinks ﹠ Dining

Our iconic bar is a Hobart institution, having served the people of Battery Point for over 177 years. There’s a sense of history here that can’t be replicated. Our taps have a great range of local beers, and an extensive selection of wine, ciders and spirits.

Beyond our bar you’ll find a range of dining areas, suited to every occasion. Our chefs work with only the best Tasmanian seafood and produce. When you live somewhere this special, it just makes sense.

Your quintessential harbourside pub: freshly poured beer, roaring open fires, friendly faces, a range of dining options.

Our Story

Established in 1846, Shippies has long been a beloved icon of the Battery Point community.

A short walk from Salamanca and the centre of Hobart, it’s the perfect place to settle in after a long day, just as the sailors, boat-builders and locals of Battery Point have been doing for over 177 years.

Rooms

Shippies isn’t just a great place to eat, drink and while the night away — it’s also a wonderful place to stay, with nine rooms catering to a range of budgets. But one of the best things about staying here is the location. Battery Point is one of the most beautiful and historically significant suburbs in Australia, with stunning water and mountain views. It’s also remarkably close to most of Hobart’s major attractions.
